Our Cruising Profile

Our Cruiser Profile

Lucky Enough is a 2008 Regal 2565 Window Express, chosen deliberately for the kind of boating we plan to do on the Rideau Canal and connected waterways. This page is not a spec sheet or a sales pitch. It is a practical snapshot of how we actually use the boat, how it is set up, and why it works for our style of cruising.

How We Use Lucky Enough

Our cruising is a mix of slow zones, open water, locks, and relaxed day trips. Much of our time is spent at displacement speeds, enjoying the scenery and the rhythm of the Rideau rather than racing between destinations. Open water runs are part of the plan as well, but they are the exception rather than the goal.

We cruise light, travel efficiently, and prioritize comfort, visibility, and easy handling over maximum speed or aggressive layouts. This profile reflects that mindset.

Typical Cruising Style

Most outings are day trips or short overnights. We value a comfortable cockpit, good sightlines from the helm, easy movement onboard, and systems that are simple and reliable. Docking and lock handling are frequent, so maneuverability matters more than top-end performance.

Why This Boat Works for Us

Lucky Enough sits in a sweet spot for us. It is large enough to feel like a true cruiser, yet still manageable with a single engine. The layout supports both slow cruising and time at anchor or the dock without feeling cramped. Features like the express windows, companion seating, and bow thruster play a big role in how confident and relaxed the boat feels to run.

What This Profile Covers

Throughout this section of the site, we break the boat down into practical areas: how it handles, how we cruise, how systems are set up, and what we have learned along the way. Where useful, we include real-world numbers, observations, and tradeoffs rather than brochure claims.

Nothing here is meant to be universal advice. It is simply how Lucky Enough fits into our boating life.
