Blower Use

Recommended Blower & Safety Products

The blower itself is usually already installed on a cabin cruiser, but there are a few inexpensive upgrades and replacements worth knowing about. Prices below are typical CAD ballpark as of this season and may vary by retailer.

Bilge Blowers (Replacement or Upgrade)

  • Attwood Turbo 4000 Series Inline Blower (3" or 4")
Continuous-duty marine blower commonly used on 24–30 ft cruisers.
    Approx. Cost: $55–$80 CAD

  • Rule In-Line Bilge Blower (3" or 4")
Quiet operation, ignition-protected, reliable replacement option.
    Approx. Cost: $60–$90 CAD

Fuel Fume / Vapor Alarms (Strongly Recommended)

A blower clears fumes. A fume alarm warns you before things get dangerous. This is one of the best safety upgrades you can add to a gas cabin cruiser.

  • MTI Industries Marine Gas Vapor Alarm (Flush Mount)
Detects gasoline vapors and sounds an alarm well before explosive levels are reached.
    Approx. Cost: $120–$160 CAD

  • Fireboy-Xintex G-2 Marine Gasoline Fume Detector
Marine industry standard, very sensitive and reliable.
    Approx. Cost: $220–$300 CAD

Installation Notes (Cost Reality Check)

  • DIY blower replacement: Usually 30–60 minutes if ducting and wiring are accessible.
  • Professional install: Typically $150–$300 CAD depending on access.
  • Fume alarm install: Often $200–$400 CAD including wiring and sensor placement.

Bottom Line on Cost vs Safety

For well under $300–$400 CAD in parts, you can dramatically reduce the risk of fuel-vapor incidents on a gas cabin cruiser. Compared to the cost of the boat—or the consequences of skipping safety—this is money very well spent.
